Catchup Sesh: She’s Making “Fetch” Happen
Ya girl stays Posting even when it’s quiet here. A digest of highlights on pop culture, gender, and self-actualization as Justice.
Hi Barbies! Hi Allans! Hello (some) Kens.
This space has been quiet for a while—as I’ve spent recent months on personal growth, cultivating gender euphoria, building Queer community, and channeling visions from the Goddess—but none of that means your friendly neighborhood Spider Queen has stopped Posting™.
Rather than repost all of my recent essays here, I’m opting to instead offer a digest of the best. Think of this as the Greatest Hits of my last few months—and if you’re a slow reader like I am, just bookmark whichever interest you for later.
I Made Up a Word for You
Her hubris level has finally got there. In writing on pop culture trends and reflecting on the cultural implications of the ongoing shift from postmodernism to metamodernism, I’ve found myself doing something that must have been inevitable: I’m trying to coin an original term for a budding artistic movement.
Here are the three essays in my unplanned series on what I’ve named Hyperpopulism: a specific current within metamodernist pop culture that marries explosive aesthetics, joyful exuberance, inclusive politics, and the multiversal narratives that define this moment, in a way that reflects and celebrates the rapid global access we now have to a far-flung plurality of points of view.
• hyperpopulism: on how art saves the soul of the world — An essay that starts with the parallels between films like Everything Everywhere All at Once and the “hyperpop” genre of Gen Z-centric music, and ends up outlining key tenets of my spiritual philosophy. 🎙️
• Hyperpopulism 2/3: The Matrix and the Trans of It All — An essay that starts with the parallels between the Matrix and Spider-Verse trilogies, and ends on how Transgender people are humanity’s only hope for salvation. 👾
• Hyperpopulism 3/3: On Empathy and Solidarity in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie — An essay that starts with the undeniable most important film of the year (haters get rekt), and ends with a call to be always uplifting each other. 💖
Blessed and Barbiepilled
Because Barbie is layered with meaning and nuance almost beyond belief, I’ve also been posting quite a number of other, more laser-targeted takes related to the film. (Movie spoilers contained in these descriptions.)
• Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is TRANSGENDER — A briefer piece on reading Stereotypical Barbie as a Transfeminine narrative, with an arc from “Assigned Doll at Birth” to body euphoria. 🏳️⚧️
• About Those Mojo Dojo Casa Houses — An even briefer piece on how one little scene says so much about what it takes for ideas to lead to material change. 🐎
• Kentolerance (Okay, Cis Men Are People) — An even briefer post on how Barbie is not only not anti-men, but as pro-men as art can be. 👨🏼
Coming soon to a platform near you, possibly even this one: a mid-length essay on how Kate McKinnon’s Weird Barbie intersects with the narrative of Shamanism I’m advancing; the “witch on the edge of town” archetype; and of course, the Morpheus of the thing. (Edit: oh look, I wrote that essay!)
Gender Starts at the Soul
I’ll conclude with some nuanced dives on gender, “sex,” and self-discovery. You’ll find a throughline between the above and below pieces via my blossoming understanding of Transition (in the gender sense) as a distilled microcosm of the path of self-actualization.
• Big You and Little You — An introduction, using pop culture reference points, to my lens on the relationship between the conscious mind and the ineffable Divine primate whom it lowkey parasitizes. (Most of the text is in the comments I posted under the main post.) 🤖🐵
• The Tranifesto: On Embracing How Dangerous We Are — A rhapsodic post about a revelatory experience I had at a drag show on April Fools Day, which helped me see—and love—that we Transgender and gender-nonconforming people are every bit as dangerous as the fascists say we are. ❤️🔥
• What Actually Is Transmisogyny? — An introduction to the core philosophical premises (which is to say, the core lies) of the patriarchal devaluation of Transfeminine people and other “failures” to perform enforced masculinity. 💁🏽♀️
• When Dysphoria Is the Air You Breathe — A post designed to hatch people from their Trans-denial eggs by illustrating how it’s sometimes impossible to recognize you’re in a dysphoric state until you experience something else. 🌬️
• Gender Is REAL. “Sex” Is FAKE. — A very brief post that single-handedly nukes the illusion that there is such a thing as “biological sex” distinct from assigned gender. 🍆
• The Myth of Sex — A more detailed, narrative-style dismantling of the myth of “biological sex,” that goes on to spell out the colonialist origins of the completely invented fiction that is the modern Western gender binary. ⚧️
Thank You for Glistening ✨
“Thank you! I deserve this award.”
I hope y’all get as much from these pieces as I got from turning the electrochemical signals in my nervous system and otherworldly visions of my mind-palace into all these weird little glyphs for you. I’m really revving up to speed lately and hope to bring you some exciting, enthusiastic, reality-shattering stuff in the coming months.
It’s that time in life where a girl becomes a woman and realizes she probably has to start a religion. Goddess-speed you gay emprexxes.
